The information a potential customer or client finds about you online can make or break whether or not they’re going to do business with you. Think about it — when you see a business listing, that might be all you know about the business. You’re going to either pursue further or click away, and probably never go back.
Your profile is a great way to make sure your business stands out from others in your area. When someone searches for their zip code in a directory, they’ll see many different options of who to call. What sets you apart from your competitors? People who find you should be able to easily see that, to make the most informed decision about whether or not to do business with you.
Which is why the information you put in your profile is crucial. Here’s a guide to optimize your business listing:
Your first sentence is your biggest opportunity: This is the first thing anyone will read on your listing, so make it count! Is it where you want to tell people about a commonly requested service you don’t offer? Maybe it’s where you will promote your specialty? Or even something you offer that not many people in your industry do. Think about the most important thing you want to tell potential customers or clients — the thing that makes you stand out the most. Think about what would make YOU call your business, if you were a customer, and put that front and center.
Accuracy is important: Update your profile anytime you make a change in your business, so when someone finds your listing, they see the most accurate description and information. Have a new location? Offer a new service? Add it in! And always double and triple check the details before going live.
Images are key: Upload your business logo as your profile picture, and populate the rest of your profile with several photos of your business. Try for a few photos of people — you as the business owner, and some of your employees, if you have any. Photos of people will help establish a personal connection with the person who sees them. Some additional photos of your business will help, so customers and clients can have more information about what they’re getting or where they’re going. Help them visualize the experience, and they’ll be more likely to call you.
Videos are a plus: You want to make your listing as appealing as possible, so include any videos you have that relate to your business. Maybe you’ve taken some videos to share on social media? Or even uploaded to YouTube. Definitely post those in your listing. Your goal is to entice people to call your business, so utilize all the tools at your disposal to make yourself look friendly, approachable, and demonstrate that you know what you’re doing. This is your opportunity to actually talk to the people who see your listing!
Deals enhance the value: Everyone loves a good deal. Do you have a new client promotion? Or a special, limited time offer? Add that in the deal section of your profile. This is an opportunity to offer more value to the people who see your listing — so take it! Try out offering an exclusive deal for this listing only. Not only will this encourage people to call, but it’s also another way for you to keep track of the business you get through your listing.
Keywords take it a step further: Have you done keyword research for your business? If you have, it’s a great idea to include some of them in your profile listing. Don’t go overboard, incorporate them naturally, so they’re easy to read.
